To the north of Strydom Tunnel, where the old wagon trail rejoins the road, the land falls spectacularly away, with dramatic views over the Olifants River as it wends its way toward the bushveld. Just before Hoedspruit, the Olifants is swelled by its sister river, the Blyde, and they jointly give life to farms, villages and wildlife alike.
Prime eco-tourism destinations now abound, offering the visitor a range of wildlife and wilderness experiences where once elephant, lion and antelope roamed.
